Hi everybody,

I'd like to control my satellite receiver dish 301. I'have read a lot of information but somes questions are still there.

Some receiver have an rs232 port on there back but mine doesn't have one. Is there a way to connect directly on this receiver (DP301) board to fake an rs232 port? I'm open to make some soldering in my receiver.

My second question is if i have to go for a serial IR port transmitter do you think the schema for the simple transmitter circuit is safe ?http://www.lirc.org/transmitters.html Do you have any others recommandations?

I want to avoid the IR if it's possible to control my receiver with a more convenient solution. Your idea are waited.

Sorry for my bad english.

Thanks
Bob

To answer your first question, the only channel change method (that I'm aware of) available for a DP301 is with an IR blaster.

In response to your second question, yes the schematics work and are safe. I built the simple IR blaster outlined on that page for $3-4 dollars and it functioned perfectly.

But because it was more esthetically pleasing, I ended up purchasing a "pre-built" blaster from http://www.irblaster.info/

Both function the same, but the pre-built blaster looks better (than my clunky homemade handywork).

Whichever serial blaster you decide to use, the following URL should help you get a second instance of LIRC going to control your DP301

I have dish 301 also. I used the instructions from losdos and I am using a actisys200L IR blaster. Search some of my posts for more information on it, but it is pretty smooth and straight forward now. You can also check my ftp site (markh.homelinux.org mirror) for a zip file with all my notes and files that I used.

Thanks for your response elgordo123 and mooselander.

I will resigned to use an irblaster for my project. It seem to also work pretty well and the documentation seems good. I will buy the stuff at my electronic shop and give you some feedback later.

Thanks again
Bob
