Hi, folks.

I'm new to Linux and want to get my HTPC working ASAP. I got a ASUS A8V DeLuxe motherboard, 1GB of DDR400 RAM, maxtor SATA 200 GB, LG 4167 DVD-RW drive, XFXForce FX-5200 AGP video card and a Pixel View PlayTV PRO Ultra PCI card.

I downloaded the latest Knoppmyth release and installed it normally, but I cannot watch TV or listen to FM Radio, neither can I listen to 5.1 surround from the DVD drive.

Any help in welcome!

Thanks,

Ney

What does "installed it normally" mean? If you are using a SATA drive you have to perform a manuel install or set your bios to emulate an ATA drive.

Did you follow all the directions in the pamphlet? It sounds like you haven't setup your video sources or maybe not assigned them to the inputs on your tuner card. Speaking of which, I have never herd of the "Pixel View PlayTV PRO Ultra" what type of card did you set it up as in myth-setup? Did you run mythfilldatabase? Can you see channel and program listings?

I have no other video source at home, so all I can do is try to tune local TV channels.

The Prolink Pixel View PlayTV Pro Ultra is a TV/FM Radio/Video Capture board based on the Connexant 2338x chipset. I couldn't find the exact board in the list, so I tried several models from the same manufacturer, but it didn't work.

Did you run mythfilldatabase?

What is mythfilldatabase? Where can I find it?

Can you see channel and program listings?

I live in Brazil so I don't get program listings for the channels.

Thanks,

Ney

The reason you can't watch TV is because myth thinks these are no channels to watch. You have to tell myth what channels are avaiable and to which input they are connected. I've never done it but in myth-setup you should be able to define a channel listing for over-the-air and assign it to the tuner input on your board.

You have to figure out what driver your tuner card uses before you can select it in myth-setup. Honnestly you should get a board that is known to work with knoppmyth already for your first time setup. I suggest one of the hauppauge pvr series.

That's a faiirly vital bit of information that you could have included in your first posting. Please note that this is not a flame. I'm making a constructive suggestion about how you and other newbies can ask questions in a way that helps you get the information that you want as quickly as possible. Better questions make for more helpful responses.

PLEASE! Help us, help you!
