Hello,

When I first installed Knoppmyth I had the above USB wireless device plugged into a USB port and the install went without problem. However, when I rebooted, during the information posted during the boot sequence I noticed that there was an error message to the effect theat no wlan0 device existed. Sure enough, I had no net connection when the boot sequence completed. When I tried to look at /sbin/ifconfig no wlan0 was listed. When I tried to /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 up I got a message that no device with that name existed. However, I unplugged the wireless adapter and then tried again and eveything came up OK. This now seems to happen everytime I boot. I cannot get a net connection unless I unplug then plug back in the wireless adapter.

Does anyone have any idea about the fix to this problem?

Thanks,

Eusebio

From the Hardware to avoid sticky:

- USB keyboards and mice - known to cause problems booting and to not be recognized during boot. Sometimes BIOS setings can help. You may also be able to unplug the device and plug it back in after booting.

I imagine the same principle applies to all usb devices.

Yeah, the hot plug support works pretty well, once it's up and running, which is why the unplug/replug trick works. However if your BIOS isn't smart about USB devices they're a problem at boot time, since hotplug seems to get enabled relatively late in the game.

Thanks for the info--this seems to explain the problem.

Does anyone know what script I can try to modify to start the hotplug first then try to start network services?
