Post subject:  Why didn't Knoppix detect my Chaintek AV-710?

My setup is as follows:

- P4 1.7GHz, ASUS motherboard (3-4 years old, don't remember specs)
- Hauppauge PVR-350
- eVGA GeForce 5200 card with 128M
- Chaintek AV-710 soundcard
- DEC tulip card (de4x5 driver hung the box. fun times.)
- 250G disk for /myth
- 60G disk for /cache
- 60G disk for OS

Why wouldn't Loonicks detect the Chaintek soundcard at boot? What driver should it use?

PS:

root@mythtv:~# soundcardconfig
/usr/sbin/soundcardconfig: line 10: exec: sndconfig: not found

More fun times! :)

There's two -- apparently the ancient motherboard I have has onboard sound, which is mildly surprising.

0000:02:03.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10)
Subsystem: Asustek Computer, Inc. CMI8738 6ch-MX
Flags: bus master, stepping, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 9
I/O ports at d800 [size=256]
Capabilities: <available only to root>

0000:02:0c.0 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. VT1720/24 [Envy24PT/HT] PCI Multi-Channel Audio Controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: VIA Technologies Inc. VT1720/24 [Envy24PT/HT] PCI Multi-Channel Audio Controller
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 5
I/O ports at d400 [size=32]
I/O ports at d000 [size=128]
Capabilities: <available only to root>

Perhaps it wasn't seated. What you need to run is /etc/init.d/alsa-autoconfig

root@mythtv:~# /etc/init.d/alsa-autoconfig
Building card database..
Configuring cmipci...
Running update-modules...
Creating snddevices...
Setting default volumes...

Works great -- plays video for about 3 seconds, then continues to hang the machine. I've made sure the card is seated properly.

wtf?

Perhaps hardware conflict? Try a different PCI slot. Check your BIOS settings....
