Post subject:  Watch TV with BT878 not working getting static with green

Wondering if someone out there can help me. I've got a Zoltrix Genie TV Tuner (BT878 based chipset) and I've only been getting a green screen with static/snow on top when I launch Watch TV. I've carefully followed the "mythtv-setup" instructions, and to the best of my knowledge, I've set it up correctly. I believe that my bttv options should be card=46 and tuner=21, so I've edited the bttv file. And yes, I know the cable from the wall is working.

when you boot, does "dmesg | grep bttv" show that it is using your card and tuner options?

Can you get a picture with xawtv.

That should be the first step, and then you need to start looking at the way you have your channels setup in the myth database.

Hi there,

The following is the "dmesg | grep bttv"

mythtv@Cypress:~$ dmesg | grep bttv
bttv: driver version 0.9.16 loaded
bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture
bttv: Bt8xx card found (0).
bttv: Bt878 (rev 17) at 0000:00:09.0, irq: 10, latency: 32, mmio: 0xd8000000
bttv: detected: Zoltrix Genie TV [card=46], PCI subsystem is 15b0:4000
bttv: using: Zoltrix Genie TV/FM [card=46,autodetected]
bttv: gpio: en=00000000, out=00000000, in=00fcffff [init]
bttv: using tuner=21
bttv: i2c: checking for TDA9875 @ 0xb0... <6>ts: Compaq touchscreen protocol output
bttv: i2c: checking for TDA7432 @ 0x8a... not found
bttv: i2c: checking for TDA9887 @ 0x86... not found
bttv: registered device video0
bttv: registered device vbi0
bttv: PLL: 28636363 => 35468950 .. ok
bttv: PLL can sleep, using XTAL (28636363)
bttv: PLL: 28636363 => 35468950 .. ok

and xawtv does not work, either. I do not get a picture, only static/snow.

The channels were downloaded by XMLTV listings grabber and appear in the channel editor. I'm stumped. Thank you for your help so far.

Where do you live? Have you selected the right frequency table in xawtv and gone through all of the channels? If you can't get xawtv to work then I would question whether you have the right card/tuner options.

I live in Canada so I selected the frequency table for "us-cable". It may well be that the card/tuner options are incorrect. Just to confirm, should I be adding the line "options bttv card=46 tuner=21" to the "/etc/mythtv/modules/bttv" file? Am I missing something?

us-cable-hrc is the other possibility. Check with your cable provider.

I had tried "us-cable-hrc" as well, but it didn't work.
