Post subject: | Hauppauge A/V cable set does not work |
I recently purchased the Hauppauge A/V cable set to replace the dongle that comes with the card that provides the s-video and audio outs from my pvr-350. http://registration.hauppauge.com/webst ... p#av_cable The card does not work at all, and when I called Hauppauge they told me that it is not supported with Linux. I was told that if I were using WinTv that there would be a setting to change from composite1 to composite2 or 3, but since I am not using WinTv there is no way for me to set this. I thought I would start here first to see if anyone knows how to get this working. Maybe there is an ivtv module change or something that can be done. Thanks, Sym |

Hi symcha, Is there a particular reason for wanting to not use the dongle cable? I believe, (haven't bought one yet, but planing to) that the adapter simply gives you access to an another switcher point on the 350 card so you could change between one more source. I do that kind of switching external personally. You would have to add another source in the mythtv-setup and assign it to an unused channel . I currently have two sources, one called RF for the regular tv and a second called Video which I assigned to channel 1. Then manually edit the channel listings and add a channel 1. only gotcha is that if you are watching something on channel 1 you have to switch to a channel that is <10 before it will switch to a channel >9 manually. Scheduled control is fine. By the way, the 350 card works very well with linux, just ask the users of KnoppMyth ![]() ![]() Mike |

mjl, Thanks for the information but I don't think you understand what I am looking to do. I have two PVR-350 cards in one knoppmyth box. I want to take one of the cards out this box and put it into another box and have that be a slave backend. I bought one of the cards used off of someone from work and it did not have the dongle. So I purchased the A/V card which only does output to use instead of the dongle. This would work fine with Windows but there does not seem to be support to use this on Linux. I can send it back and get the dongle, it is the same price. Just wanted to make sure somone has not found a way to use it. -Sym |

Hi symcha, I think I get the basic picture. The dongle cable is only used for the 350 A/V output. The adaptor card you purchased will give you a second A/V input in addition to what you already have. There is an adapter for the SVHS connecter that is on the card edge so that you may put composite video in to it. The audio goes in via a mini plug on that same frame edge near the remote jack . So if this was just to be a backend you would most likely only require rf for the tuner and the SVHS adapter if you were going to use composite video into it from say a tape machine. The only time the dongle cable becomes active is when you check the box in the menus to use the 350 tv out and will only work if you have your XF86Config-4 setup properly. So if you were to use the card without the dongle as a backend only or as a local be / fe with tv video out to the monitor, there should not be an issue. Hopefully this helps a little bit. Mike |

Like mjl said the "A/V Cable Set" you got from hauppauge is for input. the pvr-350's dongle is for output. This is the same in windows or linux, and both that "A/V Cable Set" and the dongle work fine with linux. |
