Post subject:  Digital Audio Woes

Following the instructions on the wiki, I have been able to get sound to output from my spdif connecter:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... AudioHowTo

However, I can only get sound output in Live TV, Recordings, and videos without Dolby Digital or DTS encoding. I am using xine and have configured it as instructed on the wiki. Whenever the audio works my receiver displays "PCM 48" whenever it doesn't work it displays "DEC. EROR" which I take to mean "Decode Error". In other words, for some reason it isn't understanding how to decode the AC3 passthrough from Xine. Any suggestions?

I am running xine-lib-1.1.1 and xine-ui-0.99.4
My motherboard is a bioware M7NCG 400 nforce chipset
I am running Knoppmyth R5A30.2

The receiver is a sony.

thanks.

No love?

I'm not sure where to go next, I'm willing to try just about anything... (I'd rather not re-install Knoppmyth, though)

Login as the mythtv user on a xshell and create the file ".mplayer/config" with the following

Code:
# Write your default config options here!
ao=alsa:device=digital
ac=hwac3,

Then try playing a dvd with

Code:
mplayer dvd://1

If that works with AC3 passthrough then you should be able to get xine to also work.

I cannot get mplayer to work, period...

Xine works fine, but no audio...

Frustrating to say the least. It's a bummer to have to rely on an external dvd player for 5.1 sound and not be able to play 5.1 with .iso's on the mythtv box. I have seen others with similar problems, but no solutions as of yet.

I take it you mean by this no play back of any media at all with mplayer. If this is the case than you have far bigger problems with your box than troubleshooting digital audio.

Or did you mean mplayer works for AVI files and not for DVDs?
