After running "apt-get upgrade", my remote control stoped working. I have the Hauppauge Grey remote with a PVR-250.

When I run "/etc/init.d/lircd restart" I get the error message:
Stopping lirc daemon: lircmd lircd.
Starting lirc daemon: lircdDriver `default' not supported.
Supported drivers:
null
.

"#dmesg |grep lirc" gives me:
lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61
lirc_i2c: chip found @ 0x18 (Hauppauge IR)
lirc_dev: lirc_register_plugin: sample_rate: 10

so I know that the modules are loaded.

If I type "#mode2" at the prompt and start pushing buttons on the remote, I get code on the screen as I should.

Can someone please help me? If this is the wrong list for this question, can someone direct me to a better list?

Thnx,
Cymerej

When I accidently did this (followed the advice on another forum) I ended up re-installing knoppmyth. That fixed the problem.

Yeah, pretty much the cannonical solution for that one is a do over. In case there's any doubt, this is generally not recommended...

Have you tried getting lirc and compiling it ?
Seems like you dont have correct versions of lirc-drivers..

I would try that one.

lirc breaks for me every upgrade. Not I am FC3+rpms, though. The issue is that /dev/lirc is going away.

What does 'ls -l /dev/lirc*' show you? if it is just lirc0 and lircd then:

cd /dev
ln -sf lirc0 lirc
shutdown -r now

I didn't do an upgrade, but following directions somewhere on line I did this:
Code:
apt-get update && apt-get install lirc-x xdialog

My wife wanted a dialog box to come up when mythtv shutdown, to allow you to restart the front end. I installed lirc-x and xdialog and then opted to change the mythfrontend startup script to simply respawn the frontend if you exit it.

But back to the story, do I really need to reinstall in order to fix this problem? I plan on reinstalling later this week when the new version of knoppmyth comes out, but how do I watch tv in the mean time??

Any help appreciated.

So I ended up fixing it by reinstalling Knoppmyth (R5A30.2) I had really been hoping to put that off until the new version was released but needed tv again. :D The good news is that I can also play DVD's now. On the previous installation it seemed to have trouble seeing the discs.

Fixed by a reinstall, thanks for making that part easy.

I'm having the same problem with lirc and also not seeing my cd-r

I installed install-686-l script according to an old post to try to fix lirc but i think that downgraded myth from a subversion to an older... don't really know.

When you say reinstall which do you mean? Will auto upgrade work.. I've already made several adjustments that i would hate to lose.

Yes. Try doing an Auto Upgrade first. The usual cautions apply, make sure you do a backup, and make sure that it worked.

You will lose those 'adjustments' if they are to files, rather than just to your database. Auto Upgrade will wipe everything except your /myth partition. Backup all modified files manually first.
