I have a MythTV box I set up maybe 2 months ago. I finally have all of the tweaks the way I want them, except for one. I don't have enough staorage. So, when I saw that hard drive at Best Buy, I had to have it. Here is my question though... How do I best set it up? Specifics: I have three hard drives in the machine. 2 60 gig drives, and one 160 gigger. I bought a 200 gig to add in, but I would like to remove the two 60 gig drives. All of this and I don't want to lose any of the movies which I have recorded. The three drives are currently set up with LVM. So, is it best to burn the movies off I want to save, do a MythBackup, and then re-install after getting the drives where I want them? ![]() ![]() |

So how much of the space is currently used on the /myth partiotion? If you're below 200 Gb it''s a no brainer... |

/Myth folder show 130 GB. So, do I back up the entire system on the 200 gb drive, remove the other drives, and then add the 120 gb drive like I did in the first place? I initially started with the two 60 gb, then added LVM to get the 120 gb on there. |

1) Partition your new drive with '/mnt/new/', swap & '/mnt/new/myth'. 2) Deleate recordings until you are at 180Gigs or so. 3) Run mythbackup. 4) Copy everything from /myth to '/mnt/new/myth'. 5) Reinstall the new drive in the first position. Boot off the knoppmyth CD and run an autoupgrade. |

Okay, I finanly have some time to try this. I installed the new (200 GB) disk in the machine, in place of the DVD drive. I was going to start partitioning, but before I do, how big do I want the partitions? Here are my assumptions...... /mnt/new/ 10 GB swap 2x RAM /mnt/new/myth the remainder of space Is this a good scheme? Then I am assuming by doing the auto upgrade, it will mount these partitions and re-assign them to what it needs? Also, after I do this, I can then re-insert the 160 GB drive with LVM as before? |

10-15Gb is plenty for /, but unless your RAM is less than 256Mb, 2X for the swap is probably overkill. I also see that you're proactively eliminating the cache partition in anticipation of the MythTV 0.19, which is probably wise, just remember that this means you'll need to fix the settings for live TV in 0.18.x. |
