Today I finally upgraded from R4v(last one) to the current R5 release. I did an autoupgrade and after a bit of trouble with incompatible ivtv settings from the older install, I managed to get the Avermedia M179 to work fine. The next thing I did was add the PVR 150. The card was detected and I configured it as well as the M179 in mythtv-setup.

When watching live tv, the M179 plays fine (/dev/video0), but the PVR 150 gave the dreaded black screen when watching live tv. I then pulled the M179 and used just the PVR 150. It worked flawlessly. I then try adding the M179 back into the system. I got the same results as before, but the PVR 150 (now /dev/video0) worked fine and now the M179 (/dev/video1) showed the black screen on watch live tv.

Is there something I need to set in order to get these cards to 'play nice'? These are my first hardware encoder cards, so I am very green with the ivtv stuff.

Any help/tips/leads is greatly appreciated.

Can someone tell me what should be in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv? Somehow mine disappeared and I need to regenerate it.

Get it off of the CD. See this posting for how to do this: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... t=mnt+hda1

I should really put something about this up on the wiki...

Thanks tjc. I had found it in a forum post, but it is good to know that you can grab things like that from the cd (makes sense too!).

I've managed to upgrade my IVTV to using the CompileIvtv on the wiki. All seems well with the 150, but adding the m179 still causes the black screen when switching to the m179 while watching live tv. Can someone take a look at my ivtv settings and let me know if they look reasonable or if there is something wrong?

Head over to the ivtv wiki and do some research, I seem to remember seeing some notes about the M179 there, but don't remember the details...

Thanks for the input. I checked that out and only got hits on the M179 as being a supported card. I also checked the mailing list previously and didn't really come up with much. I just checked the devel list and came up with a few mentions about the card and patches.

The real rub is that the card works fine in the box when it's the only capture card. Does something look out of sorts with the M179 IVTV lines I posted above?

I seem to remember something about having to manually specify the type for the m179 cards, but first lets look at something else. Do you have the input connections set up correctly for both cards? With 0.4.3 the PVR-150 should be set to "Tuner" and should be associated with your guide feed, but you also need an association for the second card.

Thanks for the help tjc. Fortunately, and I do mean fortunately, Ben on the ivtv-users list had a similar set up and the fix was quite easy:

From Ben's post on ivtv-users:

Quote:
I have a PVT150 and 2 M179 cards and had to manually set the correct
tuners in order to get both working properly.

On Debian (likely the same on knoppmyth since it's debian based) I
have created the file:
/etc/modprobe.d/ivtv

It contains:

# Options for ivtv module
options ivtv tuner=50,2,2

This tells ivtv that my PVR150 should use tuner 50 and my two
AverMedia cards should use tuner 2. Getting it to work for you should
be as simple as remove the last comma and 2 from the tuner line.

And indeed it was that easy. Hopefully this will be of benefit to someone in the future.

I've added this information to the wiki here: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=TVCards
