vid card: one of the commonly available nvidia 5200's will work well.

tuner card: for standard def, one of the hauppage pvr-150's should be fine. They are mpeg2 hardware encoders. If you buy the right one, it should come with a functional remote.

Webmin and samba come installed, I don't know of any issues with proftpd.

Best advice is to search the forums for proftpd and to choose your hardware based on choices already shown to work in the tier 1 forum.

Finally, the wrong motherboard can cause problems. I'd check yours against what others have used in the Tier 1 or Tier 2 forums.

Most of the 5200's that have svid come with an svid to composite adapter cord that works ok.

64M should be ok. The 5200's are well tested and support XvMC for assisted MPEG2 decoding...

I'd stay away from that MX400 card if possible. While some folks use them, I personally think the 5200 is the lowest end card *I'd* go with...

You can find answers to most of these questions on this wiki page or on the pages linked from it.
