Post subject:  R5B7 and Matrox video card - Regression from A series

Hello!

I just did a clean install of R5B7 on a P3 733MHz with 384MB RAM and a Matrox Productiva G100. Previous versions (A22, A26, A30.2) all loaded fine. R5B7 does not. The install proceeds correctly, but on the first boot X does not start. I get a rolling screen with purple lines.

This should *not* be a problem with the monitor not syncing properly: It's a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2040u, which handles 135Hz and 2048x1536 no problem. I have a feeling the Matrox isn't trying to exceed that! :)

I'm going to try to reinstall while specifying a resolution on the initial boot prompt to see if that helps. However, if someone would like to diagnose this further let me know. This *is* a regression from the A series.

have a look in /var/log/XFree86.0.log and see if you can tell what resolution/refresh it is trying to use.

I will. Just so you know, I did a "knoppmyth screen=800x600 depth=16" and it worked correctly...
