Post subject:  Trouble getting PVR150 remote working

Excuse me if this has been covered before, but a search of the forum didn't bring up anything that resembled my problem.

I am trying to get the remote that came with my PVR150 (IR receiver and IR transmitter that plug into a miniplug jack on the back of the card) to work with R30.2 . I've run lirc-reconfig.sh, selected 16 hauppage, d. PVR-150 w/ transmitter and receiver. It appears to stop and start lirc. I see that lirc is running, but when I run irw I don't get any response when pressing buttons on the remote.

In looking at my ivtv(0.4.3) related entries in dmesg, I noticed:

lirc_pvr150: ivtv i2c driver #1: no devices found

I'm assumming that this might be part of my problem. Can someone offer some guidance?

Did you try to reconfig lirc? In your /usr/src directory, unpack lirc-0.7.2pvr150 (that may not be the exact name) and cd into the lirc directory. Run ./configure select the proper settings. There's a huge thread on this forum with the correct info. Author is j0ly. Shut your box all the way down. Unplug it. Wait at least 5 min (get a stopwatch) and then boot again.

It's amazing how 25-30 seconds to make sure the setting clear has morphed to 5 minutes. ;-)

You would not believe how crazy doing that made me. I apparently have "special" hardware that does not like to reset. I tried 1 full minute, then 2 min and finally I just quit and puttered around on the internet one time. 13 minutes later I got the expected result.

;-) Beauty...

Does your box do an honest power down? Or is it one of those soft shutdown to standby to timeout things? I have run into ones (mostly little mini-desktop apliance or managed PC boxes) where you have to actually unplug them to get a real power off.

At the time the power supply was the soft shutdown type. There was no rocker switch on the back. I've since stopped using that power supply. Not because of the wait time, but in favor of a quieter unit. (Nexus NX-4090). I'm very happy with the Nexus. It has a rocker switch on the back, but whenever I need to power down, I still unplug it... just in case.
