It would help if you give us a hardware and software breakdown and what you have done so far.....

Okay here goes:

In my backend knoppmyth box I want ONLY the IR200L to transmit and change my digital box. No remote or anything. I have a hauppage 250 in there and have taken out the ir cable for the remote.

In my frontend I want some sort of serial receiver (havent bought one yet) I need to find the easiest one to install. I wanted to use the grey 250 remote with this serial receiver in my frontend.

I have the entire backend and frontend going perfectly. The backend isnt using tv out but my frontend is which doesnt really matter for this issue. Only thing left is proper lirc config in both systems and I'm ready to go. I have tried the enormous amount of howtos out there and none have worked.

So far I have been able to modprobe both drivers into the system and everything loads but when I run the command with arrows to the left of them below I get that same error message.

/sbin/modprobe lirc_i2c
-> /usr/sbin/lircd --device=/dev/lirc --output=/dev/lircd
/sbin/setserial /dev/ttyS1 uart none # for COM2 or use /dev/ttyS0 for COM1
/sbin/modprobe lirc_sir
-> /usr/sbin/lircd --device=/dev/lirc1 --output=/dev/lircd1 --pidfile=/var/run/lircd1.pid

I followed this howto: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4462

I think this is a known bug. Quoting from http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-an ... 00020.html

I just ran into this bug myself last night. To workaround, I downloaded lirc 0.8.0 source from http://www.lirc.org/ and compiled it myself on my Debian SID box running kernel 2.6.15 After installing 0.8.0, all is working well between lirc and my Hauppauge PVR-150 remote.
