Hello

I'm trying to get my remote to work. Everything works okay (except being able to change channels) on my Knopmyth box. But the remote is not doing anything. I have a WinTV PVR 250 that came with a remote.

Is there a place to enable it in the settings? Also, how to I bring up the settings screen after MythTV has launched?

Thanks,

---------------Steve

you have to run the install-i686-l script or choose lirc during the install.

After installing and rebooting, did you go thru the configuration process and stated that you have a remote(sigh, I guess not or you would be asking)? Have your searched the forum(sigh, I guess not or you would be asking)?

Exit the frontend, start an xterm and run mythtv-setup.

Sorry to be such a pest. I must have skipped that option when I was installing.

I went to the terminal and started the mythtv-setup, and I didn't see anything regarding remote activation. Where do I look there?

Also, running these "install-i686-l" things is new to me (I'm a Mac user, command line is a new thing for me). Where do I find this script and how do I run it? Is it on my Knoppmyth CD?

Sorry about the dumb questions. I need to learn somewhere, right?

exit the frontend right click on the purple desktop left click on the xterm menu option.

once the xterm pops up type

su

it will ask you for a password. enter the root password you assigned during the install.

type

install-i686-l

Well, I tried that, and the terminal said a bunch of stuff and then returned me to the command prompt. When I booted MythTV, there was no change.

I'm re-installing from the CD. It only takes about 20 minutes, and I don't have any programs to lose yet. I'll pay better attention when I'm setting up and I'll look for a remote control option.

Thanks fro all your help.

re-installing isnt going to do much, I believe mine didnt work either and I chose to set it up in the setup, but I may be mistaken.

The reason that script didnt work is because you werent the super user.
Couple things to know.

Ctrl+Alt+F1 (F1-F7) are different shells, you might find it easier to run commands there

To log in as the super user simply type su and then input your password like it has been said. Once your the Superuser simply type

install-i686-l

Most of setup files are in ur etc folder
ls to list files
ls -all lists all files
cd changes dir for ex: cd /etc/

If you need help with commands just google basic linux commands
