Post subject:  So close ... I think

I need to have a confirmation one way or the other so I can stop getting frustrated with this PVR project of mine. I just want to know whether or not this can work as a hardware setup:

- AMD Sempron 3400+
- 1.25 GB RAM
- ATI Radeon 7000 (for tv out)
- WinTV USB2 (not the PVR version)

Everything successfully installs for KnoppMyth and looks to be happy with my configuration settings but when I choose "Watch TV" it goes to a black screen (just testing on computer monitor for now) for about 5 seconds and then it comes back to the menu with "Watch TV".

Where do I look to see what exactly is happening and how do I know what settings are right for this device?

Please help!

I'm not at all sure that tuner is supported under Linux/Mythtv?

For logs etc look here:

that's what I am leaning towards ... I might just be wasting my time trying to use this device as my capture card ...

but I wanted to make sure this was the case

I have seen some people talking about USB capture being ok.

Hey is there any particular trick to getting the radeon 7000 going?

I've heard that they aren't the best to use is this correct? I have a fully functioning main box with an fx5200 but i've got a radeon 7000 laying around i'd like to try in a second box.

Yep but only the USB2-PVR version from Hauppauge, not the one mentioned by the OP. AFAIK.

Post subject:  Radeon 7000

I had an issue with my 3rd party Radeon 7000 chipset video card and trying to watch live tv (like watching it in slow motion), but gleaned enough out of the forum to get it working. I did not have to download any drivers from anywhere to get it working either.

I simply edited the XF86Config-4 file, and (going from memory here) changed the Driver? line from "vesa" to "ati", and the next two lines from "full"? to "ati". I used lower case ati in double quotes for all three lines, rebooted for good measure and it was playing at full speed. I'm outputting to a 19" monitor rather than a tv (tv we had in the bedroom is really old and no RCA inputs). I have a couple questions I'll ask in another post. Hope this helps someone else!

The other hardware I have is:
ASUS P4B-266
1.7GHz P4
512M RAM
Hauppauge PVR-150 (not MCE)
Intel NIC
