Post subject: | Diagonal Lines with PVR 350 |
I have got a near perfect working Knoppmyth system. I have systematically tackled all of the problems I have encountered, but there is one which is eluding me, I can't find a similar problem posted on this forum or Google. I am using a PVR 350 for capture and TV out. The processor is an EPIA MII 12000 and it all works well, good picture etc, but there are some feint, diagonal lines which dance across the picture. I have tried changing the PCI latency timer, checked my X settings but to no avail. I am sure that the problem is related to TV out only since if I play videos through mythweb, they look fine. Also, the problem is present with the desk top on display too (knoppmyth not even running). I suspect it is a hardware problem, but what? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Algenon. |

I have seen similar lines on mine since I started. I always assumed it was due to poor EMF shielding between the 350 and the PC innards. You could try moving the 350 to a different slot. Its never been bad enough to trouble me. |

Tried moving the PVR350 to another slot, but the card will only work in the slot nearest the board. I suspect that the EPIA mobo can't or doesn't want to drive it in the other slot. I am wondering how other Mythtv users connect their TV sets. I am thinking of upgrading the TV, so I could use another type of interface, VGA perhaps (rather than composite out of the PVR350). Post subject: | Diagonal Lines with PVR 350 - Solved!!! |
I Had the Diagonal line problem that several people have talked about on this, and a number of other PVR forums. I am running a PVR-350 with Cable tv input and output to a television through composite jacks. I found these symptoms: faint diagonal lines scrolling up the screen during live tv, these lines were on the input side because they would stop moving when pausing a recording. the spacing was about 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches apart depending upon which channel they were on, and could be present on some channels and absent on adjacent channels. sometimes the angle was different, or even horizontal. These were the solutions I tried (Roughly in order): different cables, move card to different slot, different video card, different computer, antenna amplifier, fm trap filter, ground loop isolator (homemade), signal attenuator, rf sheild around pvr card, tweaking around with frequency table in mythtv, prayer.....etc. Finally I noticed a disturbing trend In the forums (fora? forae?) anyway.... other people who had similar problems said they were going to rma their card to hauppauge.. and then these folks never post again. hmmmm.... I began to realize that when they didn't have a problem anymore, they didn't need us, so they vanished!! nice! Well I'm here to report, that I called Hauppauge, (They pronounce it, by the way "Haup-paugg" explained the problem to them, and without even batting an eye, they gave me an RMA number, and in 3 days I had a new card, NO LINES, and I'm really excited!! Problem solved!! The ease with which I got return authorization tells me that this may be a "common" problem that occasionally pops up - or maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I Have NO complaints about their customer service!! I to had the diagonal lines problem. I worked thru all the "fixes" on ever thread i could find. Until I got to the bottom of this on "return the card" it is defective. Hauppauge customer service had a great way to detect if the card is defective, that I thought should be mentioned. Try connecting a VCR "playing a tape" into the card. (so that the source is not coming from the cable). If you still have the diagonal lines the card is bad. (as was my case). Happy to report that the REPLACEMENT card is working great. (no lines) P4 PVR 350 |
