Post subject:  What could run and record HDTV at the same time?

Could a Pentium 4 2.00 GHz with 512 ram record and veiw a HD stream without lag? if not what would be the minumum?

Recording hdtv is no big deal cpu wise. For playback, you would need to use xvmc (reported as problematic) with a 2.0gig P4. The usual recommendation for HDTV playback without resorting to xvmc is to have at least a 3gig processor.

No, it means you CAN record and watch HDTV with a 3 GHZ P4 HT machine.

how do i find out what socket my Proc is on a machine that i did not build?

If you have linux on it, look at the file /proc/cpuinfo. It should reveal what kind and speed of processor you have. If you have Windoze on it, open the Control Panel and it will tell you the processor and speed.

Alternately if you know the motherboard make and model you can find it that way.
