Ok. I've been racking my brain on this.

Problem: PVR-500 gets nothing but static. A few channels show a *bit* of picture, but otherwise everything is snow.

I've been researching my arse off. I've checked the tuner types, used ptune.pl and messed with the tuning frequencies, re-installed ivtv firmware, drivers. Used mplayer direct from /dev/video0 and 1 to ensure something else on mythtv isn't causing the grief. Tried everyone's tricks I could find to get rid of the snow to no avail. The only thing I haven't tried is moving to different physical hardware.

Any suggestions?

Stats:
Knoppmyth R5B7
ivtv - 0.4.4
PVR-500MCE (I think it's a Phillips tuner, Type 57)
Shuttle SD31P enclosure
IntelĀ® 945G + ICH7-R chipset
IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 950

Anything else? syslog output below.

Thanks!

Paul

This is the message I'd investigate first:

I dug on the wm8775 failure, and found virtually no documentation or discussion on it. Found lots of peoples ivtv logs that contain it, but that's all. *sigh*.

Turns out I wasn't even loading the module, it didn't exist in the right place. I found a wm8775.ko file in my source directory so on a whim I tried throwing it into the same place as ivtv.ko, etc. On reboot the module no longer fails, but alas there appears to still be static. Any other suggestions? If someone still thinks the wm8775 is the issue can someone point me to more info on it?

Current output:

Did you follow these http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv directions to install ivtv 0.4.4? The make install should take care of the ko's for you. And you did do this as root, right?

Yup, I followed those specific instructions, as well as the firmware instructions at:

http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Firmware

and the troubleshooting and install sections from ivivdriver.org.

all as root. *shrug*

regards,

Paul

OK, just checking. At least we got rid of the errors in the log file, and that's always a good start... Before we move off of that completely do this:
Code:
md5sum /usr/src/ivtv-0.4.4/driver/*.ko /lib/modules/2.6.15-chw-2/ivtv/*.ko

and make sure that the signatures match... Given that you had one file that didn't get installed we really should double check. Use sha1sum if you prefer.

Other easy stuff to try... Have you tested the connection you're using with a TV or something? How about changing cable routing and so on to check for cross talk?
