Post subject:  my future set top, will it work?

i currently have an Epia 800 mini-itx motherboard and case
also have a 250GB HD and a slim cd/dvd burner

i would like to put them to use since they are just collecting dust (got em for christmas). i really want to make a PVR box out of it. here is my question: If i add a Huappauge PVR-250, 1GB ram, and maybe a laptop HD for the OS, would i be able to run a decent PVR?

i want to run knoppmyth because it seems easiest to install, but there seems to be a different kernel to run mythtv on an epia, but i dont know if they will work with knoppmyth or not? (linux noob, luckily i have big nerd friends)

any other suggestions?

oh yeah, i also have an IBM netfinity server that i plan on having running linux soon. i was just wondering if it is possible to make mythtv automatically move the older, less viewed videos to the server for storage?

If your Epia has a Unichrome, then yes.

i do not think it does have a unichrome, it is one of the first model epia 800

what does it need the unichrome for? the processor can't handle processing the video?

Yes, it will work. However, with such a weak processor, I'd highly recommend a Epia with the Unichrome.

And 1Gb is probably overkill, 512Mb should be plenty.

well, since i already have this epia from a few christmas ago, i guess i will built it with this board and just upgrade later when i get a decent tv.

also, is there a card that would work well with this setup with HD capture capability?

Any HD capable tuner should work however, you'll need a CN400 to view HD on a Epia.
