Post subject:  cd frontend remote

I am running rb57 and wish to run a frontend from the dvd/cd only.

I put a happauge pvr-250 in the box to use the silver remote but I think I am missing something.

It runs through the knoppix setup and everything works fine however the remote does not work. I know that in the auto install for the backend the install scripts have a section where it asks to install lirc and then a neat remote setup function. I searched the forum and know that cecil has pvr-250 configured for lirc already. It works fine for the main backend.

How can I get the remote working when running from the cd.

Can I modify the cd somehow that is running to turn on lirc?

Looking for commands and a way to get to the x shell.

One other question regarding the cd frontend. This box has ati integrated graphics. IGP200 It works but it is very choppy and the video lags behind the audio. I tried the various options.

Turned off open gl
turned on match audio to video (this results in chipmunk voices)
turned on priority

I saw posts talking about installing ati support but I thought in Rb57 Cecil added support for ati?

Ok I did some more forum searching for the remote issue. I ran the lirc setup program again. i selected the grey remote to reinstall. I then checked with irw to see if the commands were being sent. The commands are being sent properly. So I am confused.

I noticed I cannot login to the frontend. It does not allow it. I am able to execute commands in one of the x shells.

Do other people have the grey remote working with the cd. Is it some kind of permissions issue?

Also why does RB57 always crash when trying to bring up the Program Guide by pressing S

did you follow the directions on the backend for allowing a front end to connect. You have to comment out "skip networking" in some sql file as well as changing IP addresses in a couple of places.

Search the forum or wiki if you have not done these things. If you have try running mythfrontend from an x shell and post the errors

Frontend works fine and connects to the backend. I have everything setup properly.

I just need to get the remote working.
