Post subject:  PVR-150 displaying snow, no errors in ivtv init section

Hi all,

I am trying to set up a backend using Knopmyth R5B7. I follow the automated install and everything works nicely... except when I watch (or record) from the tuner (a PVR-150) all I get is snow (mostly black with some static).

First I blamed my antenna, but the antenna work on a TV set. I also tried watching the channel 3 output from a vcr playing a tape, but got the same snow.

I don't have any errors in the init section of ivtv (sorry can't post it right now, I'm installing XP to see if the PVR-150 works at all).

I am at a loss.

Any suggestions?

Edit: something I didn't realise was that the zap2it code was required I had an existing account from Mediaportal and just signed in with that. Could this be the problem?

Well, the pvr-150 gave the same results under windows. Using the certificate code for MythTV didn't change things either.

I've tried a different PCI slot, and I've also removed the audio card that was in the computer as it is not needed. This did not help.

Right now I'm pretty close to judging it a bad card, but I'll try it in another computer first.

Yeah,I think the card is dead.

Hi,
Probability of the card being ok is fairly high, if it makes snow that tells me the complete path is good and that it just isn't tuned to a frequency that has a signal.

Suggest going back and do the mythtv-setup check the settings for broadcast , cable or what ever your RF source, choose tuner, not television . Go the the channel editor and ensure you have a valid channel setup. Make everything match. I am assuming US.

Thanks for the response. I did exchange the card and after rebooting with the new one it worked fine. Oh, and I'm in Canada by the way, so US experiences should apply.

So I am good now.

(well, I'll be better when I can get my frontend to listen to the modeline for my HDTV, it's just ignoring them and outputting 1280x1024... and I haven't figured out how to get DVD playback working... damn the DMCA)
