I am working with the very latest version of KnoppMyth. Done the debian full update (which makes DVD reading work correctly on my system). I've tried grabbing all the wireless wlan-ng drivers. I managed to get them all built but they fail to function properly.

I have 2 different kinds of wireless adapter. I have the LinkSys WUSB-11 v2.6 and Dlink DWL-122. If I plug in the Linksys, the system locks up tighter than a gnats chuff (only a reset button hit works)!

If I plug in the dlink adapter, it doesn't get recognised or it complains about not being able to assign an address.

At one point, I did manage to get the dlink adapter to work but iwconfig was apparently out of date and I could not find out where to update it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated in getting these to work. I have ordered my lovely 37" Sharp LCD display and it should be here next week. I want to get this all working before it arrives!

Thanks for the help in advance.

Bisc.

Perhaps a search of the forum... SOmeone posted instructions on this not too long ago.

Believe it or not, I did actually do the search and did try those things suggested. They only got me so far unfortunately.

As I mentioned in my message, that the problem is to do with a system lock up and also problems with the system configuring the DWL-122 adapter.

Has anyone successfully used the WUSB-11 v2.6, or the dlink dwl-122 with the latest version of knoppmyth?

I went out and got a wireless PCI adapter, the Dlink DWL-G510. Unfortunately, there are no linux drivers available for this adapter. So, I've come up with a different approach:

What A/B/G adapter works with the out-of-the-box KnoppMyth? PCI or USB don't matter.

my netgear wirelssB PCI card works pretty well with the built in drivers. I want to say it's ma311 or something there abouts.

CompUSA only had the WMP-11 (don't know which version) adapter which didn't work either.

So, looks like I'm off to Fry's to find the MA311. Any other suggestions?

I posted a question about this a couple of weeks ago:
http://www.mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=866

I followed the suggestion to use the acx100 drivers,
http://acx100.sourceforge.net

and followed the install instructions I found at:
http://www.houseofcraig.net/acx100_howto.php

and everything installed perfectly, not kernel recompile required (I use R4V2, thanks for making this possible by including just the right stuff)

Pay PARTICULAR attention to the card compatibility list. DLINK has a naming convention that makes it difficult to see what's compatible:
DWL-520+: supported (what I used)
DWL-G520+: unsupported (what I originally bought, thinking it was supported)

I am trying to get this to work. It isn't working for me. I have DWL 250+. I followed your post to the instructions and have gone through them a few times to same problem.
I already have a built in LAN (eth0). But I can't make a cable reach to where it is.

I downloaded these files: acx100-1.9.8b-firmware.tar.gz and becuase there is no precompiled for 2.4.21-xfs I had to recompile my own? Using acx100-0.2.0pre7_plus_fixes-6. (The docs talk about using plus_fixes_14, but on the link 6 was the highest).

I don't get any errors at all on any part of the install. After the PC starts. I go out of myth and do ifconfig eth1 192.168.0.10 mtu 576 then iwconfig eth1 mode managed channel 6 essid mark. No errors at any time. Now when I do iwconfig I get "Warning: Driver for device eth1 has been compiled with ver 15 of wireless extension, while this program is using version 16. Some things may be broken.

When I plug in my eth0 cable and boot with it, and then try ifconfig... iwconfig... it SEEMS to work, but I think it is really just working off of eth0. ( I can ssh into 192.168.0.1 (eth0) and then also ssh into 192.168.0.10 (eth1), but when I unplug eth0 it just locks up.

What files are you using? Can you send them to me? mheg1@yahoo.com And maybe a list of the steps you took to get it going? Thanks you in advance!
Mark

Correction: I have the DWL520+ also. I am running KnoppMyth V4r2. I disabled the onboard lan so now the wireless card is configured as only wan card on board. (as eth0) I tried the install/setup again, using the same files and I get same results. I cannot ping anything nor can anything ping it. I am pretty sure I just need to get the right driver/files that you have used.
Thanks again

I am probably too late to this thread to help, but, in case anybody finds it in the archives, I had a very similar problem to this with my SMC 2662W USB wireless adapter. System would lock up hard if I booted with the device plugged in. Sometimes I could get it to appear to be running, but it never ran correctly. I was attempting to use this driver:

http://www.winischhofer.net/linuxsisvga.shtml

Then I found this driver:

http://at76c503a.berlios.de/

...and it solved *all* my problems. I figure I had about 8 hours in trying to get the first driver working...the later I had up and running in a matter of minutes. Anyway, if you still have the adapters, give at76c503a a shot.

Thanks, but I don't have that. I have the DWL 520+ I see that someone has it running. I need to find out what files they used and if there are any additional steps that they are using.

I was able to get my DWL 520+. I moved it to a different PCI slot, but I don't think that really mattered. After I boot I have to exit out of Knoppmyth. Then manually do modprobe apx_pci, then ifconfig 192.168.0.10 mtu 576. FInally I have to enter in these iwconfig commands one at a time, if I do it all on one line it doesn't seem to "stick".
iwconfig eth0 mode managed
iwconfig eth0 channel 6
iwconfig eth0 essid myessid
iwconfig eth0 (just do double check)
Then I have to manually add the gateway
route add default gw 192.168.0.254 eth0

Hope this helps anyone.

I do want to know however, how to add these to startup at the right point.
Is this what I am supposed to do:?
add an executable script to /etc/init.d
then ln -s /etc/init.d/myscript /etc/rc5.d/S99myscript

I tried it and it didn't seem to work. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this and/or where to put it?

Sorry I didn't see your posts earlier...

I don't know what to tell you however. I have followed the instructions, as mentioned, and everything worked. The only difference is that I use eth1 for the 802.11 card.

Also, FYI, I also have the warning about version 16 instead of version 15, but everything works anyhow.

Thanks. I did get it to work too. It doesn't work at boot time, but it is no big deal to exit out to Xterm and modprobe, ifconfig, iwconfig.
Thanks for everyones help.

What is the status on this? Any updates or additions for this in R4V4.1?
