Hello All,

Recently I tried to upgrade from an old, very stable R4 knoppmyth to latest R5. There were no changes in hardware between the prior and new install. I installed from scratch, did not auto upgrade.

My system is an old amd system with a pvr250 (tuner-39) if that makes a diff and an nvida with tv out. The recent install was a clean install.

I have tried many of the fixes here in the forums and have had numerous installs in between to try to make sure that nothing i did in one test would interfere with something else. I have also tried to recompile ivtv (something that has worked in the past) using the instructions at: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv

I also tried this one (http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ptureCards) but it seems to be missing a step, primarily, where does usr/local/lib/ivtv/driver come from.

I have seen a number of people ask for various things to help diagnose, here are the ones that I thought would help. I am not very good a linux but am trying to learn. Please let me know if there is something else that would be of help.

Here is the output from ivtvctl -d /dev/video0 -a

Is there sound on the recordings if you play them on another PC? Is there sound with CD and DVD playback? Have you tried alsamixer to check mixer settings?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check the sound on other pc's and the playback of a cd first.

Then i will learn some about the mixer and try to give it a go. I dont realy know a lot about linux yet, but becoming more so everytime i have an issue :)

Thanks again and I will report back tomorrow morning.

you made need to play with the sound buffering settings I ahd a little trouble in the R5 series. There are 2 different buffer settings in the setup screens.

Have a look if the mixer settings don't take care of it.

Just run alsamixer in a terminal, it uses a dynamic ncurses interface, its pretty obvious. 'Man alsamixer' will tell you all about it.

TO: nickread
So I tried viewing the mpg on another system (windows in this case) and nothing but a black screen, although it seems to play just fine on myth when i go to recordings, just no sound.

I ripped a cd, didnt see anyway to play the cd directly, then played the songs. No sound.

I also trie alsamixer, nothing seemed wrong, some of the settings were near zero, i pushed them all up to see if any setting would make a diff.

TO: iscraigh
I did not see a buffering setting, where is that? I even went back in to mythtv-setup and did not see anything either. i can change output dest, etc. Any thoughts? (or maybe i am in the wrong place altogether)

It is in the frontend settings

utilitys/setup under tv settings somewhere and I beleive under recording profiles somewhere. Extra audio buffering

Although if you are having problems with music too, you may have a different issue.

No audio on tv, alsamixer had line muted & min level, no audio control, switched to master in setup instead of pcm, all is good.
