Post subject:  PVR-250 "jail bars" on recordings

I have a system running R4V5 (upgrade planned this winter but it never happened) using the SVIDEO on a PVR250 as the only input.

It has been running for around 1 1/2 years. I built an identical box for a friend. After maybe 5 months of operation there were "jail bars" on all recordings. I swapped out the SVIDEO cable but that didn't make any difference. The only way I could eliminate them from new recordings was to reboot. The "jail bar" effect would then reappear after maybe another 5 months and a reboot would clear them from new recordings. Recently this has started to happen every few weeks. Last week I was gone for the week and most of the recordings had jail bars.

As a point of interest my friend with the identical system mentioned that his unit also had jail bars on recordings which cleared from new recordings after the box was rebooted.

Anyone else noticing similar effects or have suggestions where to look?

Thanks

Hi,
There have been so many improvements since R4V5 that you may want to consider an upgrade to at least the later A series. I have been very happy with R5A16, has been like a rock.

Depending on the hardware you have may influence the choices. If you should choose that route, give a list of your hardware and there may be a few folks that can offer some valuable tips to make the process a little easier.

The tv drivers have under gone some serious improvements that probably address the "bars effect". I think tjc has a 250 card so search for words of wisdom from him to get you started.

Have a great day!
Mike

I agree about the update. It took a bit of tinkering to build the system because I am using a IR LED driven by the serial port to control a Dish receiver. I don't know what current thinking is for doing that.

The system has a Sempron 2800, 7N1F2 motherboard, PVR 250 and 200 Gb hard drive. Only Svideo in and out are used.

Thanks

When R5B7 first came out we had a number of people make upgrades from even older versions like R4V5. A lot of work has been done on the IR blaster stuff. See this thread for a variety of (pre|post)upgrade hints: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9069
