Hey All, I'm new here so i hope you'll help me I've just started on a PVR project with knoppmyth R5B7, and i've got as far as setting up the capture card. I've got an Avermedia DVB-T 771, which is recognised under capture cards, but when i go to set up the channels i get "failed to open the card". I've even stopped the mythbackend as that has been reported on some forums, but no luck. Can anyone help here? I'm quite happy to post logs etc if someone'll tell me where they are!! ![]() Cheers |

Aha! all sorted. I've tuned it in, but the picture is *really* jerky. Running >top mythtv is using 90% of the CPU, so i'm guessing it's CPU bound. I can run the tuner in windows with the avermedia software and its really fast and crisp without using loads of system resource. Are there any tweaks people have made for the DVB-T 771? My system is a rather old Athlon 1400+ 512MB PC133 ram and an 128MB ATI sapphire card. But it should be enough. Can anyone help here ![]() Cheers |

Poor playback is sometimes caused by not having Xv support. MythTV uses hardware acceleration for colour conversion, and if the X server doesn't have appropriate drivers for your graphics card, then this conversion has to be done in software. Have a look at the console output from the frontend: Code: less ~mythtv/.xsession-errors
If there are messages about not finding XVideo, then that is your problem, and you might need to fiddle around with your X setup. |

I have an Athlon 1900+ underclocked to 1.200Mhz (more or less 1400+), 512mb DDR, a second hand Geforce 4MX and Avermedia DVB-T771. Top never reported more than 20% cpu usage on any regular PVR activity and everything is very usable. Main difference between between our configurations seems to be the video card; I can only say that Geforce 4MX driver installation was automatic and limited tweaking was necessary for adjusting tv-out. |

Great, thanks so much guys. I think that in my limited linux experience, it may be best to just get a cheap geforce 4 mx card rather than go through recompilation of the kernel etc to get better drivers. Benotto. Which exact card do you have? Thanks again. |

I don't really know. It seems a generic oem card; I bought it second hand via ebay for around 10 euro and it came with no box, manual or drivers. Consider that as far as I know, for video reproduction and tv-out a Geforce4 MX is preferable to a full Geforce4. |
