The mouse cursor will disappear when the mouse movement ceases. It also seems to randomly disappear at times when moving the mouse. At best this is a mild nuisance and at its worst makes it nearly impossible to point and click. I have to make large mouse movements to have the computer redraw the cursor. Is this something that can be corrected?

This would be easier to live with if I was not using Firefox on this machine.

I am using a USB Microsoft Comfort mouse 3000 if it makes any difference.

LinHES uses unclutter to hide the mouse pointer to make the system more like an appliance. You can toggle unclutter on/off by pressing ctrl+alt u. You can also change the idle and jitter settings in /etc/unclutter.cfg to be less aggressive.

The default settings seem silly to me. You have to move the cursor some silly distance like 200 pixels every 1 second for it to be considered as "moving" so if you are only moving it a bit, it will still disappear (and will stay gone until you move it 200 pixels).

Here are my settings: 3 second timeout, 3 pixels movement to bring it back.
Code:
[gfrost@mythtv etc]$ cat unclutter.cfg
idle=3
jitter=3

OMG this has been bothering me for years. I learned about the CTRL ALT U a while ago but actually changing the settings so that the cursor is useful is a much better Idea. I think I'm going to submit a bug saying that this 3 x 3 setting should be the default instead of 1 x 300.
Thanks Greg

I already did that and was told that the chosen settings were more appropriate for an appliance :(

Aparently 3,3 is insane for an appliance and 1, 200 is sane :shock:

yes because pushing ctrl alt u everytime you want to use hulu is much better than the mouse just appearing when reliably when you need it.
