Problem happened again on the 603 machine. Sigh...

Is no one else seeing this problem?

I swapped to a new disk drive on the 6.03 machine. I've been running for 2-weeks without a problem. Given the intermittent nature of the problem I feel like I need to run for several more weeks before declaring success, but this is certainly promising.

The previous drive was a WD 1TB green drive. Would this indicate that the drive needs to be scrapped?

Those do have the head loading/unloading problem which shortens their lives.

Search here for "wdidle3" (Western Digital idle time setting utility) for more info. I wrote up my experiences on that front in some detail.

Thanks for the info -- that is painful.

Can't really give help, but since you asked: I also shut down my system via mythwelcome. The machine restarts several times a day.
Have been running almost everything from R5E50 to 6.04.
I have been using UUIDs since installing LinHES (about a year ago).

So far I have never seen the error you describe.

On the other hand, I regularly swap hard drives, because we are running out of disk space.

So my theory would also be that it is a hardware rather than a software problem.

I'm not sure I am seeing the same error you guys are. I'm at work and only just seen this thread, but recently I'm seeing some odd behaviour that seems to be related to boot not completeing correctly. I use mythwelcome and there have been occasions that the myth has booted up ok, but refused to record things even though shedualed to. On sunday, the boot process hung. Yesterday, it wouldn't start any playback of video files until after a reboot.

In my case, I wouldn't rule out impending drive failure my boot drive is a number of years old now. I'll have a look at smartctl and see if my information is similar to yours, or not.
