With the system configured to use the oss sound driver instead of alsa, I could not hear whether my backups were successful or not; the familiar "Initiating Backup" and "Backup Complete" audio announcements were missing since I upgraded to R6.

I found that /usr/LH/bin/backupcommon is using "aplay", and that "aplay" was reporting "audio open error" because there is no alsa driver. In order that I can hear whether my backups are successfully completed, I edited /usr/LH/bin/backupcommon and changed the PLAYER= line to use mplayer and oss, as follows:

Code:
PLAYER="/usr/bin/mplayer -ao oss"

I don't know if this is the best solution, since the "-ao oss" specification presumably won't work if you don't have the oss driver loaded. But it seems to work for me, for now (at least until backupcommon gets replaced by a future update).
