Post subject:  Losing sound from PVR 500/250. msp3400 errors in log

Lately I have started losing sound on some recordings from my PVR 500 and PVR 250. The same problem occurs with livetv. The problem goes away for a while if I restart the computer. My log fills up with these errors every 2-3 minutes.

Dec 15 02:59:23 mythtv msp3400 1-0040: I/O error #0 (read 0x10/0x200)
Dec 15 02:59:23 mythtv msp3400 1-0040: I/O error #1 (read 0x10/0x200)
Dec 15 02:59:23 mythtv msp3400 1-0040: I/O error #2 (read 0x10/0x200)
Dec 15 02:59:23 mythtv msp3400 1-0040: resetting chip, sound will go off.

I thought maybe I had a bad card so I replaced my PVR 150 with a PVR 500, but the problem continued. I have also run the box with both cards installed alone, but I get similar errors. My wife has discovered that sometimes if she switches the TV to a different channel and then changes back, that the sound will be restored temporarily. Has anybody else had this problem? More importantly, has anybody fixed it?

I am seeing the same thing with a pvr 500 dropping audio with 6.02. Was a solution ever found?

I never found a solution. I became concerned about the appearance of some of the capacitors on the card and replaced it. (This was after replacing the power supply, system memory, motherboard, CPU and re-installing knoppmyth.) No similar problems happened with the new card. Whether it was a problem with the particular revision of the card that I had or the capacitors remains a mystery. My wife has been extremely pleased with the vastly improved stability of the system.

Which log had thoes error in it? Did you see any other errors aside from the ones you have listed? I am having an issue with a new install of R6.02 bringing up my problems and blaming it on the card. Just trying to figure out if we are seeing the same thing.

THanks

I can't recall if it was syslog or kernel log. If you go into the /var/log directory you can just:

Code:
cat * | grep msp3400

and you should see if you are getting the error.

Yep thats the error alright, exactly. I'm going to try to re-seat the card and hope that helps. Everything was fine before i upgraded to 6.02 so it would have to be quite a coincidence that was not related.

While you are reseating the card, you can take a look at the capacitors to see if any/all of them have bulging tops. What kind of motherboard do you have btw?
