Post subject: | TV Out problems in X [SOLVED] |
Iv been trying for days to get TV out working on my diskless frontend. I got the system up and running using the vesa driver but when playing a DVD X was consuming around 60% of the CPU. The video became unwatchable after a few minuets so I installed the nvidia driver and then ran nvidia-xconfig. That config worked fine for my monitor but getting it to work on the TV is driving me crazy. I know the composite signal works because when using the vesa driver the TV out worked and was crystal clear. Now using the nvidia driver I have not been able to get it working. Using the nvidia driver does fixed the high CPU problem when I was playing a DVD. X is taking less than 3% and mythinterface is taking about 10% CPU. Here is the xorg.conf. It works fine on the monitor but I am not getting anything out to the TV. BIOS/POST and while the system is booting outputs signal to the TV but as soon as X starts I get nothing. Code: # nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder75) Tue Dec 8 21:07:34 P ST 2009 Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection Section "Files" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "Monitor" # HorizSync source: edid, VertRefresh source: edid Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "Acer AL1511" HorizSync 31.0 - 61.0 VertRefresh 50.0 - 75.0 Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce 7600 GS" Option "NvAGP" "3" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "TVOutFormat" "COMPOSITE" Option "TVStandard" "HD480i" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection EndSection Any help would be much appreciated. |

What version of Knoppmyth or LinHes are you using? What model number of video card are you using (chipset)? Have you tried disconnecting your monitor, so that the TV is the only thing connected while booting? Edit: I see your video card mentioned in the xorg.conf - GeForce 7600 GS. Is it built in to the motherboard? |

This turned out to be due to a SMP driver on a Hyperthreading CPU. LinHES does not have Hyperthreading support compiled into the kernel so this was actually causing the nvidia driver to crash because it assumed it could use SMP. Once I disabled Hyperthreading in BIOS everything started working like it should. |
