I just tried replacing one of my slave backend machines with a different machine. My master system is R6.01 and my slave was R5.5. I installed R6.01 as a new install on a different machine using the old hostname and IP address. Designated it as a slave backend and pointed to the master backend. When it came up it seemed to really mess up my master backend which seemed to lose all it's settings. The tuners are all gone. When I restarted the mbe it came up asking for the language setting like a new BE would. The theme was reset as was my video settings so now it overscans and I can't see all of the menu settings as they are off the screen. My recording schedules are all there in the Set Priorities menu but the Program Guide is empty as are the Upcoming Recordings. Of course I was going to run a backup before starting this but forgot at the last minute. Didn't think a sbe upgrade would totally mess up my mbe. My last backup was a week ago.

Can someone tell me the best approach to fixing this? Would it be best to maybe restore just the settings table from my last backup? Would that keep all my recordings from this week? How do I get my MBE back?

First find out what is in the settings table, most of the settings are per machine, and if the machine name changes or overlaps they can go missing or get overwritten. Hunt down my settings.sh script (which has been posted here) and run it with the -d (dump) option:

The third column is the host name each setting is for. For "global" settings it will be NULL. This may give you a clue on what is going on.

If you've got a backup handy you can extract just the settings from the DB dump and feed that into mysql to restore it. Since these don't tend to change that much over time, even a moderately old backup can be useful here. Again I've posted directions on how to do this before, start with my taking advantage of backup/restore postings.
