Hi again,

In LinHES, is there any way to get a non-X terminal? In Knoppmyth, I recall being able to press Ctrl-Alt-{F1 through F7} to get separate terminal logins. I When I do that in LinHES 6.03, I just get blank screens (except for Ctrl-Alt-F4 which brings me back to Fluxbox).

This would be useful for me if I wanted to execute commands outside of Fluxbox environment (i.e. if X crashes or fluxbox crashes and for some reason Ctrl-Alt-Backspace isn't working well)

Thanks!

Should be just the same although there are fewer virtual terminal screens. I was doing this just the other day while running from the 6.03 live CD...

Hmm I was just getting black screens. I'll try a fresh reboot and pressing some buttons.

Good to know it's still there though, thanks!

Possibly your black screens are terminal screens, just with so much overscan that you can't see the prompt?

I believe it is ALT-F3 to get a terminal window. To get back to LinHES I use Alt-F4.

That can happen if your video drivers and/or monitor can't agree on switching to a "text mode" resolution. Basically the driver picks a text mode with H-sync,V-sync, and such based on EDID info or some default, and the screen can't sync to it for whatever reason.

There is an option in the kernel boot parameters which can be used to tweak the text modes used. Both lilo (R5.x) and grub (R6.xx) have a "vga" setting to to do this in slightly different places in the conf file.
