G'day, I have a pretty specific want... For DVD's either on disk or ripped to my box that have ac3 output I want to go over spdif coax to my sound system. Everything else I want to go analogue to the telly. I can get this to work for a bit and then it fails, I have not worked out what causes the failure as yet. So for stuff recorded from freesat needs to go stereo to the telly... AT the moment it goes out over spdif (no ac3) and out to the telly via the sound cards green plug (front left and right) This works but at some point it fails I hear nothing from the TV until I reboot, I can still hear it over the the spdif coax even though it is ac3 5.1/whatever it is called) Any suggestions? I don't really want to use the amp when listening to the news etc. Thanks. |

Does you TV have Spdif in? if so you could just spdif all the time and turn down the volume of the TV when you are watching DVDs. If your digital audio out is a optical and a coax even easier. All I know is that getting digital audio to work for me was an absolute Bear I couldn't imagine trying to wrangle this problem. Maybe there is a way to use the internal player for all "normal" stuff and use VLC or Mplayer for DVDs and set up the audio separately? |

G'day, mattbatt: No spdif in on the TV, I might be able to use hdmi though. I am using xine for all ISO stuff and internal for everything else (must check that) I am wondering if xine alters alsa config some how. I have not worked out when the sound disappears. I will check to see if it when xine is used. <edit 1> It seems to happen when I use xine... What on earth could xine be doing or is it the way xine is called from mythtv <edit 2> No, it just seems to change on its own ![]() Does anybody know how myth knows what sound device to use? Is it in the DB somewhere I am wondering if I can see something change. |

G'day all, Well I still have the same problem with an HDMI cable ![]() Stumped what to do now other than start digging in the code to determine how it decides what audio device to use. |
