My system has a PVR-250 . Originally it was running 5.x with a homemade irblaster controlling a Dish 301. The motherboard failed. I replaced it and did a fresh install of v6 with the PVR-250 tuner connected to cable. I updated it to 6.0.3 last week.

Cable is going all digital in a few days so I am changing to a Dish 311.

I deleted the channels and the video source. I added a new video source and an input connection binding it to Svideo1 and added /usr/bin/change_chan.sh as the path for the channel change script. I have the new channels and guide data. I went into LinHES , remotes and added the irblaster and it told me please wait and then it finished.

I rebooted and found that it no longer responded to the Happauge remote. If I choose "watch TV" from the keyboard it tells me "please wait" and returns to the menu.

If I go into the remotes menu and set blaster to none and save that it again responds to the Happauge remote. If I set it back to irblaster it kills it.

I looked in /usr/bin and could not find change_chan.sh Find showed the only copy was in /usr/Mythvantage/templates/

I tried using other serial ports and other model receivers to see if would build the script but it never did.

The Com port on the motherboard is ttyS0

$ dmesg | grep tty
Kernel command line: root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/26043032-944b-423b-8344-c9fd6bf78909 ro init=/sbin/runit quiet vga=0x314 splash=silent,theme:linhes console=tty1
console [tty1] enabled
serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
00:0a: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A

I gathered up as much info as I could based on other threads with Lirc issues.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Getting ir blaster working in 6 is troublesome, compared to 5.5, but it can be done, go here:

Thanks for the link. I am working on this now to see what happens.

I think there are more issues because of the behavior where the Happauge PVR-250 IR receiver gets disabled whenever I set the irblaster up in the remotes section. If I set it back to none it responds to the Happauge remote. I can repeat this.

Also I still haven't figured out why the video input isn't working. I previously used the svideo input when I was running 5.x.

The capture card is /dev/video0 and it shows both S-video-1 and s-video-2. I tried binding the source to one and then the other and watch TV doesn't work.

I remember the tinkering to get the irblaster working on the first box I built and even if none of the channel change IR stuff was working watch TV would show whatever was on that source.

I initially found messing with the LinHes 'remotes' setup killed my working Streamzap remote. I tried changing to the Hauppauge 415 remote (cuz I have one) but it didn't work either, so I went back to the streamzap.
I fungo-ed the initial setup with my changes, so I did an 'upgrade' reload from the CD (My CD is 6.02) followed by a pacman -Syyu upgrade to get back to the Streamzap working. Followed by putting in the pages I reproduced in the referenced link and the added four lines.
At which point it worked. For me, just knowing from others that 6's blaster can be made to work was important, cuz I was beginning to have my doubts.

For my pvr-250, the output comes out of composite 3... don't know why.. Never had much luck with s-video.

5 and earlier was much easier to get working, and the exact file name and location have changed. /etc/irblaster isn't used in 6, change_channel.sh is in /usr/bin but you will have to put it there, try the file I published with the name changed for your type of Dish.

I have been addressing this first. I figure if I don't have video input there is no point in worrying about changing channels.

I have been trying the various combinations of the 3 composites and 2 svideos. I test by changing the binding and rebooting then trying to watch TV. When you pick "watch TV" you normally get a notification in the upper left in blue with the name of the source. All I was seeing is black then back to the menu.

At one point it put up "svideo1" and started displaying video and audio from the Dish box. At that point the guide data/channels were gone. I picked "fetch channels from listing source". After that "watch TV" didn't work .

I tried deleting the channels and retesting but "watch TV" never displays what source it is using and is just black and goes back to the menu.

This was all working when it was set up to use the PVR-250 tuner so maybe I broke something when reconfigured the inputs. I have no idea what the best approach might be at this point. Any ideas appreciated.

Your video input to the pvr-250 is yellow RCA plug right ? Not the s-video ?

I did that. As an experiment I put another hard drive in the machine and downloaded 6.03 and did an install. The video input worked but it had a lot of noise in the video. I reseated the capture card and that cleared up.

I connected the original hard drive and reconfigured the video and it worked. I am wondering if maybe reseating the card is all that it needed.

While I was running on the new install I configured the irblaster. It killed the IR receiver on the Happauge card as it did previously.

I am using the svideo. I also tried using the composite (yellow) earlier and it didn't work either.

I could. I would at least like to see if I can get the hardware I have working. The PVR-250 with built in IR receiver is/was commonly used in Myth boxes so there has to be someone else who got it working on R6.

Yep... & I use this on some of my other mythboxes... but I couldn't get it to work with my setup similar to yours, so I can't advise on that particular combination.

Just to clarify. You had success using the Streamzap on a Mythbox similar to mine or couldn't get it to work?

Thanks

The streamzap (remote and receiver) is used on the 6.0x mythbox with the pvr-250. When fussing with the LinHes 'remotes' setup trying to get the ir blaster working, fungoed the working of the streamzap, I tried changing it over to hauppauge 415 (transmitter) while keeping the streamzap usb receiver....
didn't work either... nor did changing back to the streamzap transmitter,,, about this time I upgrade reloaded from the CD and pacman upgraded it. This got streamzap working again, and I made the changes in the other thread and got ir blaster working without nuking the streamzap

I use hauppauge remotes with the hauppauge receiver (plugged into the card) on other machines, but not on this one,
