Post subject:  New Receiver = Flickering Screen

I just bought a new Onkyo receiver and when I use it to switch the HDMI connection from my MythTV Frontend to my TV, the screen flickers horribly. There is no flicker from my Xbox 360 or PS3 through the receiver, only on the MythTV. I checked my Xorg log and the logs say the receiver supports the modes I'm using.

Any thoughts? I would think that all the receiver is doing is acting as an HDMI switch but obviously it's also doing something to the video signal...

Well, I'm going to continue to use my old HDMI switch in the meantime, but I'd really like to get this sorted out since I was hoping that I'd finally be able to get digital audio working. If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know. For reference, the receiver I'm using is an Onkyo TX-NR509

Maybe a refresh rate problem the xbox and ps3 are older hdmi?
Try booting the computer with the amp on or off?
Try turning off all of the video overlay stuff in the onkyo so that it is not processing the signal.
It's an odd issue.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm not sure if my video card is outputting HDMI 1.4 or not. I'll have to look into that.

This is what the video looks like:

Not being a video expert but working with alot of them..... that looks like a sync issue. Just for giggles do you have a laptop or another computer that you could test the signal chain with?

Just had two more thoughts.
1 try just plugging in the mythtv hdmi into each of the inputs to see if the input is bad or if there is some kind of crosstalk
2 it might be a grounding problem the onkyo has a two prong plug so it might be grounding through the video card. Give the amp a ground tie a screw or the shield of a connector to the ground pin on your outlet or to your computer case.
