Post subject:  What happened?

Over the past week I've not been able to connect to the linhes.org home page or the forum here. I felt like there was no reason for the internet until I could get back here.

I see the forum's back up, but the rest of it still seems unreachable.

No pressure mind, just curious on what happened.

Keep up the good work guys, you do a great job.

Regards

Chris

I had the same problem, but a website on 'up or down' websites said mysettopbox was up, and the problem was mine, locally...

Today it came back... I'm still scratching my head....

I'm still not able to see linhes.org

mysettopbox.tv has been a little iffy over the last few days, with some temporary outages, but it remains useable.

There was a hardware failure.
The site still isn't stable, but I won't be able to move things to a temp host until later tonight or Sunday.

So go ahead and use the forums if you want, but I can't guarantee that things will work correctly.

Thanks for keeping us updated.

It's fantastic you guys keep giving your free time to keep projects like this running.

Hardware failure is a pain.

Many thanks

DNS resolution still seems a bit wonky, of the three aliases (linhes.org, knoppmyth.net, mysettopbox.tv) only mysettopbox.tv seems to work. That makes things "interesting" because some of the internal links use the other names.

The funny thing was that using a different alias meant that the browser didn't find the login credentials automatically and it took some serious head scratching to remember my password. ;-)

pacman is failing for me on 6.04 -- can someone confirm that this is a problem with the site and not my machine? Thanks!

Code:
 pacman -Sy svn
:: Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from knoppmyth.net : Transient resolver failure
error: failed to update core (Transient resolver failure)
error: failed retrieving file 'extra.db.tar.gz' from knoppmyth.net : Transient resolver failure
error: failed to update extra (Transient resolver failure)
error: failed to synchronize any databases

Per tscholl the issue is knoppmyth.net is not resolvable. Mysettopbox.tv is resolvable but the other domains associated with the machine are temporarily broken.

You could switch it to mysettopbox.tv which does resolve properly. But having personally tested the repos today and found at least one issue in the 7.1 repo, I would not trust it until jams gives the all clear.

Well... I tweaked /etc/pacman.conf. I'm on R6.04. Below is what I get now -- it looks like it's all installs of new packages, not updates of existing packages, so I'm guessing it can't cause any harm, but thought I would ask for a "second opinion" before proceeding...

Code:
pacman -Sy svn
:: Synchronizing package databases...
 core is up to date
 extra is up to date
warning: provider package was selected (subversion provides svn)
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...

Targets (4): neon-0.28.3-2  apr-1.3.2-2  apr-util-1.3.2-2  subversion-1.5.3-5

Total Download Size:    3.33 MB
Total Installed Size:   11.38 MB

Proceed with installation? [Y/n]

I've started adding aliases to my /etc/hosts as a temporary measure, but the problem is that there are quite a few host names which are often used more or less interchangeably. So far I've added:

140.211.166.97 -> knoppmyth.net, www.knoppmyth.net, ftp.knoppmyth.net, mysettopbox.tv, www.mysettopbox.tv, ftp.mysettopbox.tv, linhes.org, www.linhes.org, ftp.www.linhes.org

Unless you need those packages it won't really do any good either. If something goes wrong, you'll just be chasing your tail. My recommendation is you not bother until things stabalize.
