Live TV plays terribly it is rather jerky, however when I play Recordings the video is super fast and the audio is realtime. I am using a Lenovo T60 laptop which has a Intel T2400 running at 1.83GHz and the onboard video is a Mobility Radeon X1300. I have another thread similar to this in Hardware, however that is related directly to the Wireless, this is more of a general query on the playback issues. Anyone got any thoughts? Thanks |

Here is an update: I changed the playback profile to NORMAL and now recordings playback fine with CPU usage of mythfrontend using around 85% and X using around 22% (via top) When playing LiveTV the CPU usage mythfrontend is using around 50% and X using around 6% (via top) however it is now not jerky. Then could anyone explain why there is such a disparity with CPU usage or if I could playback "nicer". Cheers |

Not sure what your using for a recording device, but when I setup my PVR150 it set up several recording profiles. Default, Live TV, High Quality, Low Quality. Depending what's in there you could have different recording rates requiring less cpu to play back. My DVB card doesn't give me any options so it depends on your recording device. Service Menu -> Mythtv Config -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Recording Profiles Just a thought. |

I am not using profiles, I leave these as default. What I have found is that it may be the resolution that is causing the problem. When I watch 720x576 (PAL) it seems to go alright, however when I do HD 1440x1080 (I don't know where that res came from) it seems to struggle. |

1440x1080 seems to be a standard HD resolution, seen in HD camcorders and the like (HDV format), but also in some cable shows or on-demand streams. The fact that 1440/2 is 720 probably has something to do with it. |

1080 is the vertical mesurment isn't 720 also the vertical? in the 1440x1080 1440 is the horizontal measurement. ![]() ![]() |

No, you're definitely right. On the other hand there are lots of examples of video formats reusing X or Y resolutions on the other axis, and I'd bet that some of it has to do with the math for those numbers being all worked out or otherwise convenient. |
