Post subject:  filemarkup.MYD file is epic!

I am having a problem with my filemarkup.MYD database entry. First off, it crashes near daily. Second, it's HUGE! (see below). Third, when I myisamchk -r the crashed filemarkup, it runs wild on the root directory and has run me out of space eating up around 1 gig during the process. google says that filemarkup is enlarged when one rebuilds the seektable for easy use with the Internal player.

Does anyone else see this issue with filemarkup? Is there a work-around or fix?

I'm thinking of expanding my root partition, but I will have to wait until I have some time...

TIA

Code:
-rw-rw---- 1 mysql mysql      8662 Jun  2 19:11 filemarkup.frm
-rw-rw---- 1 mysql mysql 465522384 Aug  8 17:12 filemarkup.MYD
-rw-rw---- 1 mysql mysql  20320256 Aug  8 17:12 filemarkup.MYI

Not sure what that table is for. If you know I'd be interested.
I did look on my machine and there is no data in my tables for filemarkup.MYD

If you don't need the data you can truncate the table. Here is a similar issue with the logging.MYD and how to resolve it.

My logging table was huge as well.

Haven't read your thread, but I will. This leads me to believe that filemarkup is used in the seek table with use of the Internal player for Videos.

Yes sounds like that's it and would explain it's so huge if you do a lot of videos. I don't so would explain the lack of entries in my db. In that case you won't want to clear the table space.

I'm going thru the entries in Webmin and the db is loaded with videos I don't even have anymore. And it has hundred and hundred of entries per video! (There has to be a better way...) As much as I like the Internal player for simplicity sake, I might have to go back to mplayer just so I can nuke this table and not have to repair daily.

judging from the comments in
http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/5109
sounds like there should be a better way but doesn't sound like there is any interest in making changes.
I think you might have the right idea.

Just to put a bow on this thread...

I tried using mplayer instead of Internal player for my videos, but it would mean dumping Storage Groups and 'redoing' hundreds of videos in my case. So I tried the tscholl solution and after backup up my original filemarkup.* files and stopping the backend, I Truncated the table (deleted entries). So far I've been playing videos without any repercussions and I've gained about half a gig on my root directory.

Conclusion? Keep an eye on your filemarkup files, they can get away from you...
