Post subject: | XBMC & LinHes |
Hi, I had some issues with my Linhes upgrade (flagged in the install sections) and this has given me a chance to play with xbmc. I found it a rather nice environment. I am sure I can use xbmc as a frontend replacement, what would be the recommended procedure to have this as the perminantly as the frontend. On R7, I installed xbmc from pacman, but I had to go into mythfrontend and turn it on. Would I therefore, install LinHes as a backend only, install xbmc via pacman and then set the backend to start xbmc? Anyone have any guidance on this? I know I sound like a noob, but I just haven't got the time researching everything these days.... Thanks |

XMBC rocks, install it from pacman and it will create a button for you to start the program inside of your frontend. That way you can use it for a library. Put your shows on a second drive and setup a storage group. You can also start it from the command line via xterm. My preference is the button. If you want it work with Lirc remote control browse my other post for the workaround. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=23705 |

Thanks for your reply RacerX. I tried xbmc in R7, but I would rather it went into xbmc automatically.... I'm sure there must be a way to integrate it... |

If you just want a frontend then just download XMBC for their site http://xbmc.org/download/ It very flexible and It works fine on Linux, Mac, Windows 7, and Android. Then use samba or nfs to connect to mythbackend |

The front end is started by the /etc/X11/Sessions/LinHES script. It shouldn't be too hard to modify the script to start XBMC if that's what you prefer. Beware that there are a number of things like the services menu and shutdown/reboot/... that are provided by the frontend so you would need to manually launch it via Alt-M to use those. |
