Post subject:  Samba or NFS issue on clean install of 8.1 (new user)

I am having a strange issue with file shares and I am new to LinHes after coming over from years of Mythbuntu. I installed LinHes 8.1 on a test hard drive and got it up and working perfectly. After getting confident in it, I took out the test hard drive, swapped it out for my working hard drive, installed it clean, ran all the setup added a storage drive and its working perfectly. Except I cant access the file shares. If i turn off NFS and Samba the PC disappears from windows network browsers, If i enable them both, the Pc reappears but there is no share available. I am not familiar enough with Linhes to trouble shoot it just yet. Any help would be appreciated. I cant figure out what I did differently when installing my test drive to my production drive, I could swear I set them up the same...

I ran these commands
Quote:
/etc/rc.d/samba start and
testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf
after searching the forum, but am not sure what to make of it. Workgroup is my network.

/etc/rc.d/samba start
testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf

For Samba, it's better to start with a standard config, get it work, and then customize to your requirements it can be very daunting.

Thankfully, mattbatt posted this samba hint that works plus it's a good place to start

LinHES uses runit to manage services. To manage samba:
Code:
sudo sv start smbd
The command start can be substituted with stop/restart/status.

From your log it appears libtalloc is not working correctly. I would suggest updating to R8.2 as that is now in the release repos. There is also a problem with the share definition in your smb.conf that I think R8.2 should fix for you.
