I just found out about this. How do I enable it on my LinHES installation? I can't find any documentation :-/

Okay, so far I've discovered that this appears to work:
Code:
pacman -S mythexpress

How do I configure it? If I go to mythweb and click on Utilities->MythExpress I get a "server refused connection" error.

This should get you going, looks like you have done half the steps.
From the local linhes website:
utilities - >mythexpress

---------------------------------

MythExpress is not enabled or installed

MythExpress is a browser-based interface to MythTV's HTTP streaming capability.

To enable MythExpress run these commands in a terminal:
pacman -Syyu mythexpress
add_service.sh mythexpress

Thank you for your help, Jams.

So, it looks like there's a "bug" in that if someone doesn't see that initial screen (which I didn't) and runs the install for MythExpress, they don't know what the next steps are because that webpage is overwritten with the MythExpress page that's supposed to show the MythExpress interface.

Oh well, looks like it's at least loading. Now I need to find out why it's not showing any recordings. (nevermind, it's working now. Just needed a refresh :-))

As you noticed the first load can take a bit, but after that it's generally snappy.

Regarding the "bug", the instruction page is displayed on a 404 error which means mythexpress is not installed.
Once mythexpress is installed it does place a file for the webserver to serve up, so the error code changes.
Granted installation directions should be placed else where, like maybe the wiki.

Glad you got it working with minimal effort, mythexpress is a pretty decent program.

Do I need it to transcode video or something? I can't get it to stream anything and when I try to direct play, I get a "Video undefined cannot be found" error :-/

Hmm, apparently it just doesn't work over a VPN. That's odd, even when I redirect all my traffic through my home network I can't use MythExpress. I guess I'll just have to wait until I get home to do more testing.

Wiki would be a good place to put instructions. Google was not helpful.

I miss the old knoppmythwiki.org days...

You shouldn't have to do anything once you have installed and started the service. But Safari (Mac or iOS) is the only browser that I have found where streaming actually works. It is a known limitation according to the mythexpress project page: https://github.com/MythTV-Clients/MythExpress

Yeah, I read all of that, but it's working even less well on my iOS devices. I don't even get the files, all I see is the 3x3 button up in the left hand corner... :-/

I can get some of the UI elements on my wife's iPad, so I think it might not be working on my devices because I'm running a beta version.

Nope, looks like the problem was the Ad blocker I'm running on my iPad.

I still don't get why Direct Play isn't working, though. According to the documentation "There's no harm in trying a direct play, the worst that could happen is a big X appears."

However, I'm not getting an "X," I'm getting "Video undefined can't be found."

I wish this guy had some sort of bug reporting :-/

I hadn't tried Direct Play as streaming works quite well on Safari on my Macs and the various iOS devices we have. It looks like Direct Play is only an option on Videos and not Recordings but I wasn't able to get it to work either.

To make mythexpress work with our website menu we do some manipulations but you can run it directly by going to http://your.ip.box.ip.address:6565

That's how I've been accessing it.

Right after I ranted on here, I realized that there was a way to submit a bug on Github and am now working with the developer. Apparently, if you want to do direct play, you need to wait until the video details load. Also, the only formats supported are those supported natively on your device. So, on iOS, only properly formatted .mp4/m4v files.
