I keep getting the error: "Failed to get D-Bus connection: Operation not permitted" trying to do perfectly reasonable SysAdmin thing as root including:
Changing run levels with systemctl
Installing lm_sensors
# systemctl list-units (list-unit-files works)
Modifying some services (not all)
# journalctl (systemd-journald.service not running, can't be enabled with systemctl because "The unit files have no [Install] section.")
...and others I can't recall because it happens a lot..

This is new 8.4 install on new ESC BSWI-D2-N3050 motherboard (dual core celeron N3050), 4GB. There are 2 drives--one SSD with everything but media storage and a 2 TB USB mechanical for that. I have tested it recording four simultaneous HD MPEG streams while playing one and it works fine. other than changing the drive and partition layout it's pretty stock at this point, with no extras (lm_sensors was the first I was trying to install to quiet the fan).

I have installed twice (screwed something up while migrating data to second drive) and had the problem both times. I have run pacman -Syy several time and it syncs the database, but hasn't installed anything, which in itself seems strange. I have had sporatic interaction with *nix's over the last two decades, but not to much experience with systemd or d-bus and reading about the former in particular hurts my head, so I'm hoping someone has some advice here.

Seems significant to me that I can't enable journald because there is something absent with the file--is there some things missing from the install? Also, I would have expected pacman to install something by now.

LinHES uses runit for running services not systemd.

There have been no new packages pushed to the release repo since the R8.4.2 ISO was released.

I get the same error when running sensors-detect:
Code:
[root@mythtvquad ~]# sensors-detect
[b]Failed to get D-Bus connection: Operation not permitted[/b]
# sensors-detect revision $Revision$
# System: BIOSTAR Group A770E3
# Kernel: 4.9.31-1-ARCH x86_64
# Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X2 560 Processor (16/4/3)
...

Not sure exactly where the issue is since the touch point is at a low level.
