I tried to change the system type from standalone to mbe running frontend. The "Transferring database settings" box comes up and doesn't go away. mythfrontend.log has thousands of

ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (111)
-c restore -t syssettings -d 127.0.0.1 failed

messages. Is there some step I missed?

Thanks

I've seen this a couple times with my unit. I ended up doing a full recreation of all my settings. PIA. If this happens again, I think I'll try a restore from backup. YMMV

Can I perhaps ask, how you changed the system type?

I am planning to run a MBE in the basement. I set it up as a MBE + FE so that I could do the configuration (channel search, etc.). Now I'd prefer to run it without frontend, so that it switches of when idle. The plan is to use wake-on-lan to switched back on when needed by the frontend.

Just by using the menus. I think it's under the Linhes menu. You may have to go into user accounts or permissions to enable seeing the menu item. (Sorry to be so vague, I went back to 5.5 for now, so I don't have it in front of me).

Thanks for your answer. I found out by accident that the best solution for me is to leave the system type as it is. My main concern was that the frontend on my master backend would keep the system from shutting down.

The solution was to start mythwelcome and to configure mythwelcome so that it would not start the frontend in turn. This can be done very simply by activating the info menu (i key).

I never knew that this menu exists, but it gives the option "Automatically Start Myth Frontend".
