So I finally get digital audio working out of my mythbox and then I tried watching a flash video and no sound! Dang it!
I am using the OSS drivers so this solution wont work for me right? http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... pdif+sound
Is there some magic little button that I am missing?
now that I have heard how bad the little headphone jack sounds I can't go Back but I need to Have Hulu working for SAF reasons.
Thanks.

OK scratch the OSS thing I managed to get the word soup organized in just the right order for ALSA. There seems to be more support for ALSA out there. Now to get Flash working!

BTW something weird has happened alsamixer isn't working if I type
Code:
alsamixer

I get
Code:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

Can I re-download alsamixer?

[EDIT] BTW the alsamixer thing I haven't completely figured out but it had something to do with being set-up as OSS then going to ALSA digital not ALSA analog because when I changed it to analog alsamixer came back. Not sure but wanted to post that for anyone googling [\EDIT]

Using this guide http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/AllensDigitalAudioHowto
I changed my audio type to tweaker in Service Menu>LinHES Configuration>Audio menu
Then changed this file
Code:
/usr/LH/tweaker/fs/etc/asound.conf

to this

Code:
pcm.spdifdmix {
        type dmix
        ipc_key 1337
        slave {
                pcm "hw:0,0"
                format S32_LE
        }
}

pcm.!default {
        type hw
        card 0
        device 0
                 }
 pcm.!default {
     type plug
     slave.pcm "iec958"
  }
pcm.!default {
     type plug
     slave.pcm "spdif"
  }

}

Using aplay -L my card identifies itself as a SiS SI7012

Now I have backed up and have posted my configuration online so that I have something to go back to.

SO I just had to set up my audio again (seperate issue not worth describing) It seems that you need to get digital audio working FIRST with mythtv and LinHES menus then switch to tinker with the asound.conf file. those two menus seem to be doing something magical in LinHES that nothing else can override.

Having been bit by device numbering changes I'd recommend using the more verbose (but also more stable) card names provided by aplay -L rather than "hw:0,0".

Thanks TJC
This is just a note for myself somehow my frontend reset it'self back to default. Of course my backup is a little old so I had to re-find all the settings. The audio became a pain because It's an all or nothing thing and the audio menus are so far away from any media playback menus.

Long story short It took me an half-hour to find the right word soup to make this work so I wrote it down.
