Post subject: | can R5E50 user go to LINhes; backup. |
i am still using KM R5E50 on my low-end box. i consider going to LINhes, but have a number of recordings i do not want to loose. on the LINhes site a howto for upgrading from R5.5 is available, i guess this method will not work on my version. how to go with this? related question: any upgrading considers a backup is made first. can i backup to an external (usb) harddisk (as i do not have more than a bit of space on my box. the fdisk -l output of the mythbox: Code: Disk /dev/hda: 250.0 GB, 250059350016 bytes

I'm pretty sure the database will update fine. Just make sure you have run optimize_mythdb.py before you start just to be sure your database has no corruptions. The database has undergone a lot of revisions since 5E50 so it may take a while. Other than the database, a lot has changed from 5E50 and I would expect you will have to do some manual adjustments under the hood to maintain your links and directories. If you did customization, the OS organization has changed significantly so you will have to redo some of these. If your system is completely stock it might just work but to be honest I don't know. |

I'm not positive but using the upgrade route, I think you need to go to R6.04 before going to R7.01. Perhaps Cecil or Britney can you shed some light on this! Tim |
