Summer re-run time, so it is a good time to upgrade, and I seek your advice to make it go smoothly. Currently running 6.04, and root disk partition space is tight: Code: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 4.6G 4.1G 292M 94% / none 979M 0 979M 0% /dev/shm /dev/sdb5 2.7T 1.1T 1.5T 42% /myth /dev/sda3 460G 222G 238G 49% /mythalt As you can see, /root has only 290MB free, and I bet the install would fail when it ran out of space. (Does anybody know what the free space requirement is to upgrade to 7.x?) So step one would be to resize /root to 10GB. To do this I must sucessfully re-arrange the disk partitons. They are currently like: Code: Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x6b675bb9 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 609 4891761 83 Linux /dev/sda2 610 853 1959930 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda3 854 60801 481532310 83 Linux I would add 5 GB to sda1, for a total of 10 GB, shrink sda3 by 6 GB, make the swap 2GB. Which tools are best to do this? With enough room I will try the Code: sudo pacman -Sy linhes-scripts Any other advice? Thanks! |

Gparted has worked for me to resize drives. I ran out of disk space on my root partition about 6 years ago I have since been making my root partition 20-25GB during each install ever since. (I had runaway logs that filled the drive) http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php |
