With a new installation of LinHES 8.1.1 I can't play DVDs of any sort. The option for libdvdcss is checked. Searching the forums, it seems there are no recent (like last nine years!) problems of this sort, and I would hesitate to try any solutions that old. What do I need to look for?
TIA,
--Bud

(on edit: that's cute, the software substituted "pineapple" for what I wrote ... thought we'd gotten beyond that, sigh ...)

What do you have for:
Code:
ls -l /dev/dvd /dev/cd

Sorry for the long delay. The output of ls -l /dev/dvd /dev/cd is

Code:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  19 Nov 22 13:04 /dev/dvd -> /dev/cd/dvd-1:0:0:0

/dev/cd:
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Nov 22 13:04 cdrom-1:0:0:0 -> ../sr0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Nov 22 13:04 cdrw-1:0:0:0 -> ../sr0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Nov 22 13:04 dvd-1:0:0:0 -> ../sr0

Hmmm, I see on my other frontend that does read dvds there's a link for dvdrw, but I haven't a clue how to add that to the main machine ...

On edit: oh good grief, I just discovered it's a read-only drive, still, seems like it ought to be able to play a DVD. If I put in a RW drive, how would I get it to be recognized post-installation?

Edit 2: Whaddyaknow ... I put in a RW DVD drive and now Mythfrontend is happy, and if Mythfrontend is happy, we're happy too!
