Since you have intermingled 8.2 and 8.3 I think if I were you I would do a clean install from ISO and restore from backup.

From where you are now just follow the command line instructions like you did in your VM. If you do the ISO method there is no need to remove Kodi as the OS partition gets erased.

Well I finally got around to upgrading to 8.3. I did it by the command line route although I did have to "sudo pacman -Syu" twice due to download failures of 3 packages. Everything went well and after redirecting /etc/lircrc to my custom setup it seems to be working correctly.

Kodi is working well and I can now control playing music, including selecting albums, using the Kore app on my phone and the TV screen can be off. I find it is much more usable than mythmusic.
