Hi,

I Am running the latest r6 and I can get audio out fine via alas with the onboard realtek, but I would prefer as most of us to pipe the audio via hdmi with one cable to the tv.

Under aplay -l I only get two realtek audio devices ( one digital and one analog)

Anyone have any suggestion or road map how I can get my gt240 hdmi port to come up as an audio device so I can choose it for output to the tv?

Hope these help. It's been my experience that digital audio is hard on Linux. I don't know why but it seems to be more wonky than video.
Good Luck on your journey

Not at all. I got mine to work quite easily (as I recall it did require recompiling alsa).

The most annoying thing was that my tuners both have analogue audio chips and after a reboot, I have to select the nvidia audio using F6 then un-mute it. There's probably a way of setting this, but I'm rather lazy about this - alt-x, alsamixer, F6, downx3, m is pretty easy to remember, and it only needs a reboot a few times a year (no, "sudo alsactl store" doesn't do it).

A single audio cable is a joyous thing. You can then run another optical cable to your digital surround amp and turn the TV down for a Saturday night in (most TVs do digital pass through).

Mike

This might help: http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.p ... 781#120781

Basically HDMI audio requires at least alsa 1.0.19 but LinHES 6.03 is only at 1.0.18.

The above link leads to a how-to compile the latest alsa.
